We all have bad habits. There are some bad habits that must be broken fast when you have diabetes. It is important to break these bad habits in order to boost your health and to reduce the risks of consequences and complications. These are a few bad habits that you need to break if you have type 1 or type 2 diabetes.

Eating Large Meals or Unhealthy Snacks

Large meals, especially those that are high in carbohydrates, can cause blood glucose to spike and then dip once the insulin takes effect. This is hard on the human body and can potentially increase the risk of developing organ damage or other diabetes-related complications.

Sleep Deprivation

Your body heals itself while you sleep. Failing to get enough sleep can lead to experiencing higher blood glucose levels and less insulin sensitivity. This means that you will likely need more insulin if you do not get between seven and eight hours of sleep every night.

Failing to Manage Stress

Stress is very unhealthy, even for people who do not have diabetes. If you have diabetes, failing to manage stress may lead to binge eating, eating unhealthy foods, and increased production of stress hormones. Each of these situations often raise blood sugar levels.

Living a Sedentary Lifestyle

Living a sedentary lifestyle is a bad habit among many people. Getting sufficient exercise is one of the most important things that you can do to help control your blood sugar and boost your overall health.

Break these bad habits and see what a difference these small changes can make to your overall health.
