Managing your glucose levels during pregnancy is important for your health and the health of your baby. High blood sugar throughout pregnancy increases the risks of birth defects, stillborn babies, and preterm deliveries for the mother, as well as high birth weights and an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes for the baby. These tips will help you manage glucose levels during your pregnancy to promote more favorable pregnancy outcomes for everyone.

  1. Monitor your sugar. Check your sugar frequently throughout the day to check for spikes and unexpected increases.
  2. Add physical activity to your daily routine. Even as little as 30 minutes of activity daily can bring about positive results for your energy and your sugar.
  3. Eat a healthy diet. Not only do you need a diet rich in nutrients, so does the baby that is growing inside you. Skip quick carbs and sugary snacks in favor of more substantial foods that will help you maintain a steady blood glucose level.
  4. Get seven to eight hours of quality sleep at night. It may sound simplistic, but getting the right amount of sleep allows your body to function better, including how it responds to insulin, how it utilizes sugar for energy, and more.
  5. Take your insulin as prescribed. No one likes taking insulin. But for the sake of your health and the health of your baby, it is sometimes necessary, especially during pregnancy.

Do these five things to enjoy great improvements to your sugar levels during pregnancy.
